Mr. Steve Davis

Principal’s Message:

Welcome to the Thomas Jefferson Middle School website. My desire is that you find this digital tool useful and easy to use. It is my pleasure to support you in any questions or concerns you may have, please feel free to visit me in the office at any time.

Our staff at TJMS is committed to a culture of supporting diversity and caring about student needs. The teachers at our school work together to find solutions to learning problems and supporting and respecting a restorative atmosphere that is student centered. We want the students to feel respected and understood we expect the same from parents and students.

We strive to maintain a safe learning environment for students; we strive to meet parent expectations for cleanliness, organization, and safety. We welcome parent and community input, if you see anything that is not safe or appears inoperative please contact us and let us know.

We may be a smaller rural community, but we plan our student’s education to prepare them for a global 21st century life. We use the latest in technology in our classrooms. Each classroom is outfitted with a Smart Board, student computer stations and most teachers have document cameras. We have two full time computer labs for student use for research projects and homework. Our teachers are trained in the use of common core curriculum and standards. The teachers are organized into professional learning committees based on subjects taught. We use the cycle of inquiry to determine student needs and instructional pedagogy.

Because of the dedication of our staff and students to learning, we have demonstrated the Wasco students can compete with any other community. We have scored well in county, regionally, and state competitions such as Science Fair, Oral Language, Math Field Teams, and we have also reached national levels of excellence, in competition for History Day.  We have cutting edge programs committed to preparing all students for college and professional careers. We have A.V.I.D. classes (Advancement Via Individual Determination) with teachers trained and committed to insuring our students meet rigorous academic standards. We have written and received grants for many of our programs from the Wonderful Co. (formerly Paramount Farms). Wonderful provides partial funding for our S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program that provides many powerful lessons in agriculture, engineering and scientific fields. Wonderful has been partnering with our school for years to provide learning tools and assistance to insure our students get the same privileges of a lager diversified school system.

Because we work and live in a rural farming community, many of our students are immigrants and work in agricultural. We have a large portion of our students who are English Language Learners. These students receive extra support in language development every day. All students are supported via and E.L.D. class (English Language Development). Student support varies depending on student need.

Again, we welcome you to the community and look forward to seeing you at our next parent meeting or at one of our sporting events in the gym. We truly care about our students and love to watch them mature from young pre-teens to responsible young adults.
